Yasin Yilmaz, who stood against plotters in the 4th Raider Main Jet Base Command in Kazan, Ankara, which was one of the most important points during the July 15th coup attempt, was martyred after shots were fired. Working at a supermarket in the Kazan District, Yasin Yılmaz was married and a father of one. He was tailoring at home as a side job to provide for his family.
People from Kazan, who heard about the coup attempt and paid attention to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s call, blocked the roads to Ankara and showed a great example of resistance. Waking up at 01:30 in the morning and finding out about the events, Yasin went out wearing his white shirt, his brand new trousers, and shoes. His parents called to contact him, and the stranger that answered the phone told them that he had been killed. Searching from one hospital to another for Yasin, his family finally found him in the mortuary of one of the hospitals.
Eyüp Yılmaz, a father of 35-year-old Yasin, said, “I have another child, I can find solace with him if I cannot with Yasin. But if I don’t have my homeland, then I cannot find solace.”
The funeral of Yasin was held in Oluközü County Cemetery in his hometown of Akdağmadeni, Yozgat on July 17th.
