The U.S.-based private intelligence and research company Stratfor repeatedly pointed President Erdoğan as a target that night. Stratfor shared the coordinates of President Erdoğan's flight to Istanbul on Twitter three times every 20 minutes, while coup-makers tried to determine President Erdoğan’s place to assassinate him.
They shared the contents showing that President Erdoğan's plane was over the Sea of Marmara in the first tweet and that the plane neared Istanbul and would land in the second tweet. Stratfor shared in the last tweet that it had been confirmed that the planned landed in Istanbul and shared the location of Atatürk Airport with the public.
