21-year-old Batuhan Ergin, who took a picture of the Bosphorus Bridge where he resisted putschists on the night of July 15 and posted it on social media saying, “We are not here to get charity, but to save the country,” was martyred by putschists after being shot in the heart on the bridge.
Upon returning from his military service as a commando at Bitlis, three months ago, he heard about the armed attempt of Gülenist traitors when he was in a close friend’s home on the night of July 15th. Saying, “Let’s go. Let’s become martyrs tonight. If this country is lost, how are we going to look at our parents’ faces? How are we going to explain it to our children in the future?” And went to the bridge for his family and future.
His last words were “God is the greatest.”
Batuhan was shot in the heart by gunshots fired by putschist traitors on tanks. A patriot named Ercüment took him to the hospital with his car. Martyred on the way to the hospital, Batuhan’s last words were, “God is the greatest.”
Posting a photo on Snapchat he said, “We are not here to get charity, but to save the country,” on his way to the bridge on the night of July 15. The same message was written on his headstone.
Martyr Batuhan Ergin was buried in the Ortaköy Cemetery in İstanbul.
