Martyr Battal İlgün Taç, who took stand against putschist soldiers along with his friends on the night of July 15th, was martyred as he was performing the dawn prayer, by traitorous soldiers in front of the Presidential Complex. He told his mother as he was going out, “Mother, I am going to become either a martyr or a veteran.”
Working as painter and decorator, 35-year-old Battal wanted to go to Mount Türkmen to become a martyr, yet, he fell a martyr in the city where he lived. His brother Erkan, noted that Battal got in a fight and was imprisoned for 2-3 years during his youth but that he had left all of those bad habits behind and joined İslam after leaving prison.
“Don’t bother, I am a martyr”
Battal’s brother Erkan, stated that his brother was caught in crossfire by the putschists while he was performing his dawn prayer on the grass in front of the Presidential Complex. Also stating that his brother become a martyr on the spot, “When Battal fell down, his friend grabbed him and tried to prevent him from swallowing his tongue but Battal said, ‘Don’t bother, I am a martyr’ He died a martyr on the spot.”
