Gölbaşı Special Operations Headquarters, where one of the most intense attacks were made during the July 15 coup attempt, served as the place of martyrdom for 46-year-old Önder Güzel. The Rank-2 Police Commissioner Önder Güzel, who was an Ankara Special Operations Department Deputy Chief, had three daughters.
Martyr Güzel was known by the people around him for his experience in his job and his desire for martyrdom. The martyr’s mother, Gülşen Güzel, stated, “My sweetie wanted it this way. My son didn’t betray his country. My sweetie loved his country. At last, he fulfilled his desires and fell a martyr.” before the martyr’s body during the funeral prayer.
Güzel was taken to Aksaray by his family and buried there. Three daughters of the martyr yelled that they would stand straight against the traitors, like their father. They attended the funeral in Special Operations uniform.
With the decision of the Aksaray Municipality Council, the martyr’s name was given to a street, previously known as 57th Street. Besides, the name of Coroner Angio Center at Aksaray State Hospital was changed to Martyr Police Önder Güzel Coroner Angio Center.
