Setting off to defend his country on the night of July 15th saying, "I will not return," Hasan Altın was wounded by shots fired from tanks on Mamak Street. He said to his family in the hospital where he was taken to, “A soldier shot me, I have become a veteran and hopefully I will become a martyr.”
After watching on TV that access to the July 15th Bridge was blocked, he took action and went out without waiting for President Erdoğan’s call. He said to his son Fazlı Altın, who wanted to go out with him, “Son, you don’t know, if soldiers are outside, there is definitely something bad going on. God forbid, if anything results badly, you will find your mother, sister, and wife somewhere else. And they will take you or just kill you.” He said to his wife, “I am not coming back,” and left running down the stairs.
Also being a member of the board of directors of the Mamak AK Party District Organization, Altın communicated with the rest of the organization through WhatsApp. Around 10:00-10:30 PM, the whole organization gathered and set off to Mamak Street. Altın, who encountered a dense crowd when he arrived at Mamak Street, climbed up on the tanks to try and stop them. He was shot by a putschist soldier who opened the top of the tank at that moment. Reciting God’s name as he was wounded, Altın was taken to the hospital.
Hasan was taken into surgery at 02:00 in the morning and released at 06:00. Seeing his family after the operation, Altın said, “A soldier shot me, I have become a veteran and hopefully I will be a martyr eventually.” He stayed in stable condition until the evening, until his situation deteriorated and he was taken into intensive care. He was kept in intensive care until the next morning and became a martyr at 05:50.
