Heavily wounded by bullets that the putschist soldiers fired in front of the Presidential Complex, during the July 15th coup attempt, Bülent died as a martyr in intensive care.
Bülent had followed in his father’s footsteps, who had died just five months before his son. He was known for wanting to open a students’ venue. He was self-employed when he was martyred.
“This is a war of independence”
Thirty-nine-year-old Bülent, couldn’t resist the call of the president whom he doted upon and went to the complex. Shouting, “We will not let them enshroud our president,” and standing out against putschists in a heroic way, he thought it was a ‘War of Independence.’ His brother Hakan, noted that Bülent was walking one hundred meters ahead of everyone else. He said that his brother told him in their last conversation, “If they succeed, they will occupy Mecca, Mecca falls. This is a war of independence. They will make brothers kill each other.” He also mentioned that people around him would love him so much.
Bülent Karalı was buried in Karşıyaka Cemetery on Monday July 17th.
The name Martyr Bülent Karalı was given to a middle school in Etimesgut, Ankara.
