Bekir Bozdağ

He was born on April 1, 1965 in Yozgat's district Akdagmadeni. He graduated from Uludag University's Theology Faculty and Selcuk University's Faculty of Law. He completed his master's degree at Uludağ University Institute of Social Sciences, History of Religion. He worked as a freelance lawyer.

He was elected as Yozgat deputy during the 22nd, 23rd and 24th terms. He was a member of the Justice Commission in the 22nd term and the AK Party Group Deputy Chairman in the 23rd term. He was the Deputy Prime Minister of the 61st Government, and the Ministry of Justice of the 61st and 62nd Government. He is the AK Party's Central Decision Board Member and Minister of Justice of 64th Government.
Bozdag knows English and Arabic at the intermediate level. He is married and is a father of three.

July 15 Period


Upon the invitation of Parliament Spokesman Ismail Kahraman, four party MPs and ministers were gathered at the General Assembly. While the people resisted the coup in the streets and their representatives were against the coup in parliament, the jets seized by the coup troops carried out low flights to suppress the resistance in Ankara and Istanbul. The low-flying coup troops began bombing later. At the same time, the helicopters fired at the parliamentary police.

"What we will do is die here"


When the bombs were being fired from the F-16s, Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag was on the rostrum of the General Assembly where there were conflicts within the campus. A bomb dropped on the roof on the left side of the parliamentary Honor hall. The explosion was so intense that the room was covered in dust. Prime Minister Yildirim's office, the entrance of the opposition and the Hall of Honor has become unusable due to the impact of the bomb. Many names opposed this proposition when the parliament security chiefs brought the proposal to be preserved in the bunkers of the MPs. Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag, one of the opponents of this proposal, stated the following legendary sentences in the moment of great panic:

Do whatever you want. We'll get you to court, we'll make you answer before the public. "

The images taken by another MP on a mobile phone were watched by thousands of people on the internet and it was an agenda on social media.

After the second explosion, Parliament Spokesman Kahraman gave instructions to go to the shelter and the hall was quickly evacuated. Parliament Spokesman, ministers, deputies were taken to the boiler room first, then directed to the shelter. The shelter which was around 50-100 square meters, under the general assembly room, was low and stuffy. The deputies, who had difficulty breathing, were able to get out at 9:30 am in the morning.

During the six-hour waiting period, heavily-armed special team officers guarded the shelter doors.
During this long wait, President of the Assembly Kahraman described the 1960 coup, while Cemil Cicek shared his past experiences. At the same time, the member of AK Party İlknur İnceöz's phone rang. The caller was President Erdoğan, briefly speaking. Erdoğan thanked the deputies, "You are writing history," he said.
