Ahmet Kocabay went out to resist FETÖ’s traitors on the night of the malicious coup attempt on July 15th. He fought fearlessly, even holding up some of the FETÖ soldiers with a knife to their neck. He became a martyr when he was eventually shot by one of the traitors.
He fought on the tank
Ahmet went out with his friends upon President Erdoğan’s call. He bravely jumped on to a Putschist operated tank that was running over people, put his knife against the military officers’ neck and for a little while stopped the tank from moving onward. Eventually, the officers’ operating the tank had regained control and started driving again. Stuck on the moving tank, Ahmet traveled until İSTOÇ with the tank. He was later shot by a putschist soldier in the liver and fell off the tank. Picked up by the security guards of a car market, he was brought to the Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Hospital. However, he died and became a martyr at the hospital.
Ahmet was 31 years old at time of his martyrdom, had recently started a textile business after closing a café that he had run for two years. He was originally from Malatya and had a one year old daughter. Known as a loyal and bold person, he had always said to people around him, “Protect my family if anything happens to me.”
The news of Ahmet’s martyrdom was delivered to his family on July 17th. He was buried in the Edirnekapı Cemetery.
The name Martyr Ahmet Kocabay was given to an imam hatip high school in Esenyurt, İstanbul.
