Abdullah Tayyip Olçok went to the Bosporus Bridge with his father Erol Olçok to protect his country, nation and flag on the night of July 15 and was shot twice and martyred at 16 years old. The high school student was one of the youngest martyrs in FETÖ’s bloody coup attempt.
Abdullah Tayyip Olçok, who was as his family’s first child on June 24, 1999, in Istanbul. He started attending Capitol Elementary School in 2006, and continued his education at Private Efdal Elementary School two years later. He started high school at Ahmet Keleşoğlu Anatolian High School in 2013, and transferred to Koşuyolu Private Individual Basic High School in 2015. He wanted to study law and was preparing for the university entrance exams.
‘I’ll go where you go’
Abdullah did not listen to his father, who went into the streets to fight the coup attempt. He did not hesitate even for a moment to resist and fight along his father.
Erol Olçok prepared to leave his house in Altunizade that night. He told Abdullah to stay with his siblings and mother. Abdullah did not listen to his father and said: “I’ll go where you go.” After this, he and his father went out to fight for their sacred cause.
They went to Altunizade at first with flags in their hands. He never left his father, who kept trying to raise the morale of the crowd. He walked toward the Bosporus Bridge in front of the young people who were walking arm in arm. His father tried to convince the soldiers to stop. He wanted to take Abdullah to a safer place after he saw that the soldiers would not be convinced. However, it was at that moment that soldiers shot Erol Olçok. Abdullah was shot with two armor-piercing bullets as he was running to help his father. Abdullah Tayyip Olçok was martyred at the scene and Erol Olçok succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.
Erdoğan: Abdullah Tayyip was a really bright kid
A funeral was held for Erol Olçok and Abdullah Tayyip Olçok at the Marmara University Faculty of Theology Mosque. President Erdoğan gave a speech at the funeral could not hold back his tears. “Erol was my road companion. Abdullah was a really bright kid. May God rest his soul.” Erdoğan recited Quran by their graves in Karacaahmet Graveyard.
The name Martyr Abdullah Tayyip Olçok was given to an Anatolian imam hatip high school in Yenimahalle in Ankara, an imam hatip middle school in Elbistan in Kahramanmaraş and an imam hatip middle school in Selçuklu in Konya.
