114-meter-long vessel experienced rudder failure en route from Russia to Kocaeli, Türkiye, say coastal safety authorities

Maritime traffic in the Istanbul Strait, which had been suspended due to a rudder malfunction on a 114-meter (374-foot) long tanker, has resumed in both directions.

According to a statement from the Turkish Coastal Safety Directorate, the tanker was anchored in the Ahirkapi anchorage area and traffic reopened in the north-south direction as of 12.50 a.m. local time Monday (2150GMT Sunday).

Traffic in the Istanbul Strait was suspended in both directions Sunday.

The vessel, the Nazan, faced the issue while en route from Russia to Kocaeli near Istanbul on Sunday evening, the Turkish Coastal Safety Directorate posted on X.
