Russian foreign minister says Moscow expects to receive response from Serbia soon

Russia has sought urgent consultations with Serbia following the imposition of US sanctions on the Balkan state's energy sector, Russian Foreign Minister Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a news conference in Moscow, Lavrov said Moscow maintains constant contact with Serbia and has requested urgent consultations in connection with the current situation related to sanctions against the Serbian Oil Industry.

"We are in contact with our Serbian friends, we have requested urgent consultations, and we hope that we will receive a response as soon as possible," he added.

On Sunday, in an interview with the Serbian Radio and Television broadcaster, US sanctions coordinator James O'Brien said the only way to avoid the risks of the strategic partnership between Belgrade and Washington is to reduce the share of Russian Gazprom and Gazprom Neft in the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) to zero.
