Fenerbahçe Sports Club Chairman Aziz Yıldırım hit Near East University head during basketball match in Istanbul
The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Istanbul launched an investigation against Fenerbahce Sports Club Chairman Aziz Yıldırım on Monday after he slapped head of a rival team during a basketball match on Sunday.
Işık Eyigüngör filed the complaint against Yildirim for slapping him during a women's basketball match between Near East University and Fenerbahce in Istanbul's Kadıköy district on Sunday.
The prosecutor's office launched the probe following the complaint on charges of "willful injury".
Basketball Federation Chairman Hidayet Türkoğlu said those held responsible over the incident would be sent before the federation's disciplinary board.
"The disciplinary board will make the decision in the shortest time by making a detailed examination and evaluation," he said.
"I was deeply saddened by the events during the Near East University-Fenerbahçe game," Türkoğlu added.
