'The Notorious' MMA fighter sparked outrage on social media platforms after he posted a now-deleted racist comment on Twitter, labeling Nurmagomedov's burqa-wearing wife a ‘towel’
Irish mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Conor McGregor was slammed by thousands of social media users after comparing rival Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s wife to a “towel” in an Islamophobic attack on Wednesday.
'The Notorious' McGregor swiftly deleted the tweet in which he shared a photo of Dagestani UFC legend Nurmagomedov’s wife wearing a burqa, saying: “Your wife is a towel mate."
The post was deleted from McGregor’s official account within 15 minutes but not before it was retweeted thousands of times with many branding the MMA fighter a “racist”.
McGregor announced his retirement from MMA on Twitter last week but he continued to call out Nurmagomedov for a rematch.
Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Conor McGregor in October 2018, defending his UFC lightweight title.
