Germany calls for the home support to get behind them in Sunday's World Cup final against Brazil's arch rivals Argentina

The Mannschaft assistant coach Hansi Flick is hopeful that Brazilians will support Germany in Sunday's World Cup final against Argentina, despite the 7-1 defeat they inflicted on the host nation.

'We're hoping for the support of the Brazilians,' the 49-year-old told reporters. 'The reaction we have got from them since the game has been amazing. We're looking forward to the game against another South American team. I think the players are really fired up for it.' he added.

"All of us are hoping for support from the Brazilians," said Germany defender Benedikt Howedes, 26.

"I thought it was a wonderful gesture the way Brazilians celebrated for us."

He added: "All along the way there were Brazilians cheering us. It was really fantastic."

Argentina, who beat the Netherlands on penalties in Wednesday's semi-final, are looking for their third World Cup win while Germany are bidding to lift the trophy for a fourth time.
