Jiangsu Suning sign Shakhtar's 26-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira for 50 million euros
Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning signed Ukrainian football giants Shakhtar Donetsk's Brazilian attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira on Friday.
Shakhtar Donetsk announced on their website that the clubs agreed on all terms about Teixeira's move to the Chinese club.
The transfer fee is reported at 50 million euros. ($55.9 million).
It eclipsed the record-breaking transfer of Jackson Martinez from Atletico Madrid to Guangzhou Evergrande on Feb. 3.
Playing for the Ukrainian heavyweights since Dec. 2009, Teixeira scored 89 goals in 223 appearances.
The Brazilian attacking midfielder won the Ukrainian Premier League title at Shakhtar Donetsk five times in a row in 2010-2014.
Teixeira is expected to play alongside his fellow compatriot Ramires at Jiangsu Suning.
Jiangsu Suning signed 28-year-old Brazilian central midfielder Ramires from London-based Chelsea on Jan. 27.
Chinese Super League clubs are drawing attention with star signings during the mid-season transfer window.
Atletico Madrid forward Martinez, his fellow compatriot at Inter, Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin, Chelsea's Brazilian midfielder Ramires and the Ivory Coast's Gervinho, who played for Roma, are the other prominent Chinese signings this year.
