Fenerbahce defeats Anadolu Efes, 88-8, in the Euroleague's 8th round
Fenerbahce defeated Anadolu Efes, 88-8, in the Euroleague's eighth round in Istanbul late Thursday.
In the Turkish derby, billed as Europe's biggest basketball club competition, Fenerbahce managed to snap a three-game losing streak, improving to 5-3 in the season.
Anadolu Efes, meanwhile, dropped to 3-5.
Fenerbahce's Greek playmaker Kostas Sloukas scored 21 points and dished out 4 assists, while Jan Vesely added 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Jayson Granger had led Anadolu Efes with 19 points, but the visiting team paid the price from the free-throw line, shooting only 8 for 17. Fenerbahce got 18 points from the free-throw line.
On Friday, another Turkish showdown is scheduled when Galatasaray Odeabank play against Darussafaka Dogus at 8 p.m. local time (1700 GMT).
The new Euroleague format allows all 16 teams to play against each other in a league format -- a break from the old system, which divided the teams into two groups of eight.
