44-year-old to leave after Sunday's game against Sevilla
Barcelona on Friday fired Spanish head coach Xavi Hernandez, and will leave his role after Sunday's final game of the season.
"Today Friday, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has informed Xavi Hernandez that he will not be continuing as first team coach in the 2024-25 season," Barcelona said in a statement.
"FC Barcelona wishes to thank Xavi for his work as coach, as well as for his inimitable career as a player and as team captain, and wishes him every future success in the world," the club added.
Xavi's Barcelona failed in the 2023-24 LaLiga campaign that has been already won by rivals Real Madrid.
Barcelona secured second place in the LaLiga as they are four points above third-place Girona.
Barca have 82 points before their visit to Seville where they will finish the season.
Real Madrid with 94 points in 37 matches won the domestic title in previous weeks.
Besides LaLiga, this season Barcelona failed in the UEFA Champions League, Spain's Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup.
