Spanish giants Real Madrid win 2013-14 UEFA Champions League title -- their tenth -- by defeating city rivals Atletico Madrid 4-1 with goals scored in injury and extra time.

Spain's Real Madrid won 2013-14 UEFA Champions League title by defeating their compatriots Atletico Madrid 4-1 in the final match played on Saturday night at Estadio da Luz (Stadium of Light) in Lisbon.

Spanish league champions Atletico Madrid took the lead with their Uruguayan center back Diego Godin's header in 36', setting the result of the first half: 1-0.

Real Madrid, who generally dictated the tempo, began to mount pressure on "Atleti" during the second part of the game.

After wasting many chances Real Madrid managed to score the equalizer with their Spanish center back Sergio Ramos heading the ball coming from corner in the last minutes of the second half. Ramos's goal in 93' meant extra time would decide the winner.

In the second half of the extra time, Real Madrid's Welsh star Gareth Bale scored the quintessential goal to lead, which broke Atleti's composure: 2-1.

In 117th minute, confident Real Madrid put the game away when their Brazilian left back Marcelo scored the third goal, 3-1, clinching the victory for "Los Blancos" (The Whites).

In the last minute of the game, Real Madrid won a penalty, and Portuguese powerhouse Cristiano Ronaldo found the net from the white spot, setting the final score: 4-1.

After the 4th goal, demoralized side Atletico Madrid's head coach Diego Simeone rushed into the pitch and was sent off by the referee after arguing with Real Madrid's French defender Raphael Varane.

Atletico Madrid's Turkish star Arda Turan did not play owing to his injury.

Real Madrid, whose last Champions League triumph was in 2002, are crowned as the winners of the most prestigious trophy in Europe at club level for the 10th time.
