Names such as Meral Akşener, Ümit Özdağ, and Sinan Oğan criticized the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahçeli, for his failure in the November 2015 general elections, along with some members of parliament and party members within the MHP.
After the criticism, the same individuals gathered signatures from delegates to take the MHP to an extraordinary congress. However, they were unable to go to the congress due to legal reasons.
Following these developments, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) expelled important figures from the party such as Meral Akşener, Yusuf Halaçoğlu, and Ümit Özdağ, after the Disciplinary Board's decision.
On October 25, 2017, Meral Akşener, Koray Aydın, and four expelled MHP MPs Yusuf Halaçoğlu, Nuri Okutan, Ümit Özdağ, İsmail Ok, as well as Aytun Çıray, a former MP from the True Path Party who had resigned from the Republican People's Party, and 200 founding members founded the Good Party (İYİ Parti) at the Nâzım Hikmet Congress and Art Center in Ankara's Yenimahalle district.
The party's name, logo, and slogan were announced, and Meral Akşener was unanimously elected as the party's first leader.
Although the majority of the founding members of the Good Party were from the Nationalist Movement Party and nationalist backgrounds, there were also individuals who had previously served in the Welfare Party, Motherland Party, True Path Party, and Democratic Left Party.
The Good Party obtained the right to participate in the June 24, 2018 presidential and parliamentary elections with the participation of 15 Republican People's Party MPs. Presidential candidate Meral Akşener received 7.29% of the vote, while the Good Party received 9.96% of the vote and had the chance to win 43 seats in parliament.
