World Seed Congress 2025 and Asia Pacific Seed Congress 2026 to enhance Türkiye's seed industry
Türkiye is on its way to becoming a global brand in the seed industry as it prepares to host the World Seed Congress in 2025 and the Asia Pacific Seed Congress in 2026.
Yildiray Gencer, president of the Turkish Seed Industrialists and Producers Sub-Association (TSUAB), told Anadolu that these events will significantly bolster Türkiye's position in the global seed market.
Gencer noted that the association is collaborating with the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry and private sector research and development teams to enhance the competitiveness and diversity of Türkiye's seed sector.
This year, the Agriculture Ministry introduced a new model for plant production, marking a transformative period for farmers in Türkiye. The country's seed sector achieved $330 million in exports in 2024.
“Türkiye has taken steps to make its own place in the world seed arena and the government funds for companies operating in the industry help them grow and develop new varieties,” Gencer said, emphasizing the sector's achievements over the past year.
He also pointed out the opportunities on the horizon with the World Seed Congress in Istanbul next year and the Asia Pacific Seed Congress in 2026.
“We will host producers from all over the world at the World Seed Congress in Istanbul next year and the Asia Pacific Seed Congress in 2026, which will create opportunities for the Turkish seed sector, and after these big events, we hope that Türkiye's representation in the seed industry will improve further and new opportunities will be unlocked,” he said.
He added that the association aims to achieve $500 million in seed exports in 2025.
