'We will carry on our efforts by sourcing aid locally, bringing additional supplies from Türkiye,' says head of Turkish Red Crescent's Lebanon team
The Turkish Red Crescent said Wednesday that it has distributed 500 food parcels in the city of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon, which has been heavily impacted by Israeli attacks.
Each parcel contains supplies to support a family of five for 20 days, Alpaslan Durmus, head of the Turkish Red Crescent's Lebanon team, said in a statement.
The aid was delivered with assistance from the Lebanese Red Cross, he added.
Highlighting the severe humanitarian impact of the conflict, particularly in southern Lebanon, he said the organization aims to continue providing aid to civilians affected by the war.
“We will carry on our efforts by sourcing aid locally and bringing additional supplies from Türkiye,” he noted.
Since the conflict between Israel and the Hezbollah group began on Oct. 8, Lebanese authorities said that at least 4,061 people have been killed, including 1,106 women and children, and 16,661 injured.
A cease-fire agreement between Lebanon and Israel took effect on Nov. 27, bringing temporary relief to conflict-hit regions. Lebanese authorities have reported around 249 Israeli violations of the truce since it came into force.
Durmus said the Turkish Red Crescent remains committed to helping Lebanon recover from the war.
The organization's humanitarian aid operations team in Lebanon continues to deliver essential support to vulnerable communities.
“We are working to help heal the wounds of the war and provide relief to those in need,” Durmus added.
