In the early days of the Ukraine War, it was widely noted that the UK and the US would do everything in their power to sustain the conflict after having instigated a major war in Eastern Europe. It was evident that these two countries, after dragging Ukraine into war, would cause irreversible destruction in the region. Türkiye took significant steps to end the war, garnering global attention. However, the UK, in particular, put immense pressure on Ukraine to nullify any progress made at the peace table. Turning Eastern Europe into a battlefield directly impacted both Russia and Continental Europe. Türkiye, too, felt the negative consequences of the war.
Before the Ukraine War, FETÖ members had already been involved in significant incidents as tools in the Eastern Europe, Türkiye, and Eastern Mediterranean policies of the UK and the US. This group had even played an active role in the overthrow of the Morsi administration in Egypt, although this hasn't been sufficiently discussed in Türkiye. Curiously, the Karlov assassination (December 2016) was also largely ignored in certain circles. Yet, the UK and the US were intent on driving a wedge between Türkiye and Russia, laying the groundwork for undesirable events. At this time, the solidarity of some political parties and groups with FETÖ went far beyond mere "rights and freedoms," though they managed to mask regional developments under the narrative of "victimhood and innocence." Meanwhile, US and UK intelligence and their agents were freely operating in Türkiye. Had they succeeded in pitting Türkiye against Russia, it would have echoed across a vast region from the Balkans to China. The Karlov assassination was a deliberate act of malice.
The pressure exerted by the UK and the US in Eastern Europe had already been established in the Eastern Mediterranean over the Palestinians. These two nations openly encouraged Israel's expansionist policies and forced the Palestinians into submission. In my opinion, Israel has never attained the strength to stand against the entire world. Regional countries have always seen Israel as a proxy of the US and the UK. From 1917 onward, Zionists considered themselves living in a province of the US and the UK in the Eastern Mediterranean, a fact that became public knowledge after 1948. The US moving its embassy to Jerusalem and decisions concerning the Golan Heights were merely further encouragements for Israel. Even the presence of Al-Aqsa Mosque, the first qibla of Muslims, is now under threat. The Palestinians have been left with no other option.
Following all this, the joint article published by the heads of US and UK intelligence declaring their stance in Eastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean is indeed significant. The extent to which this joint article has been debated needs to be considered separately, but it clearly indicates the US and the UK’s desire for the continuation of the war in Eastern Europe. The authors, the intelligence chiefs, explicitly targeted Russia while carefully distinguishing the US and the UK from Continental Europe. Mentioning Continental Europe solely as the operational field for Russian intelligence serves to underline this separation. However, when it comes to the Eastern Mediterranean, Palestine, and the Islamic world, ambiguous expressions obscure the reality. While the intelligence chiefs regard China as an open threat, they use vague terms to obscure the facts about the Islamic world. Interestingly, the joint article mentions the suffering and loss of life in Gaza without ever explicitly naming Israel, focusing only on the captives held by Hamas.
The joint article states that the UK and the US are engaged in a global struggle. The intelligence chiefs have directly named three main arenas for this struggle: Eastern Europe, the Eastern Mediterranean, and China. The article hints that the fight with China will unfold on a slightly different plane. We can anticipate that the technological warfare will take on new dimensions.
While the heads of UK and US intelligence discuss the global scope of the current conflict, Türkiye's efforts both to establish peace in Eastern Europe and to curb Israel's expansionist policies in the Eastern Mediterranean are crucial for understanding the spirit of the times. This situation reveals a lot to those curious about Türkiye's identity.
