Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday appointed a new commander of the country's Special Operations Forces, one of the five branches of Ukraine's Armed Forces.

In a decree published on the website of the Ukrainian presidency, Zelenskyy appointed Oleksandr Trepak as the new commander of the Special Operations Forces.

Earlier in the day, Zelenskyy dismissed Serhii Lupanchuk from the post which he had assumed back in November last year.

No reason was given for Lupanchuk's dismissal.

In February, Zelenskyy declared the need for a “reset” in the country's leadership during an interview with the Italian state broadcaster RAI, expressing that this would not be focused on a single entity such as the military.
