Concerned about the activities of the Turkish navy around Cyprus, Athens has so far opened Dedeağaç, Thessaloniki, Kavala, Larisa and Crete to U.S. troops, who are said to be setting up a base in the Stefanovic district of Thessaly after it was recently allocated to the Pentagon.

The helicopter base is being built in the 1st Land Forces Aviation Brigade used by the Greek army in Stefanovic, which is located directly across from Balıkesir-Ayvalık.

The base, which is being constructed in the barracks, will be used by U.S. soldiers.

Upon its completion, it is said that it will house combat helicopters such as the Apache, as well as transport helicopters such as Black Hawk and Chinook will be deployed at the base.

Washington has recently dispatched 2,000 soldiers, 700 armored vehicles and a number of containers and equipment to its base in Dedeğaç, located 60 kilometers from the Turkish border.

Calling it the “Incirlik alternative,” Greek media said the bases in Crete and the town of Sedes near Thessaloniki, as well as those located in Kavala and Larisa are being used by the U.S. Army.

The U.S. military has reportedly decided to send RQ-4 Global Hawk-type UAVs to Greece in attempt to counter Turkish drones over the Aegean.
